The Sport Australia Hall of Fame is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Kevan Gosper AO, who died on Friday, July 19, at the age of 90. Gosper was a distinguished member of the Hall of Fame, having been inducted in 1989 as a General Member in recognition of his significant contributions to sports administration.

Kevan Gosper’s remarkable career extended far beyond his achievements as an athlete. As a world-class 400m runner, he earned a silver medal at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics and claimed gold at the 1954 Commonwealth Games. His success on the track was matched by his unwavering commitment to the Olympic movement, which he championed through various esteemed roles within the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

John Bertrand AO, Chair of the Sport Australia Hall of Fame, said “We are deeply saddened by the loss of Kevan Gosper AO,” said Bertrand. “Kevan’s influence on Australian sport, especially through his pivotal roles in the Olympic movement, was extraordinary. As the inaugural chairman of the Australian Institute of Sport and former president of the Australian Olympic Federation, his leadership and dedication were truly unparalleled.
