Congratulations to Australian Coaching Council Advisory Committee Chair Lawrie Woodman who was awarded an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) in the 2021 Queen’s Birthday Honours List for his services to coaching and sport development.
Lawrie has been a dedicated coach and coach developer, high performance manager and sports administrator since 1983.
“I am very honoured to receive it, I have enjoyed the work I have done and I hope I have contributed to the improvement of all sports in Australia,” Lawrie said.
Lawrie is an educator by profession and prior to entering sport administration at the Australian Coaching Council (ACC) he worked as a lecturer in physical education at the Phillip Institute of Technology (now RMIT University) in Victoria.
“For me the main thing is helping people and providing them with the tools they need to offer the best experience to their club and participants.”
Through his role at the Australian Coaching Council, Lawrie helps provide support to National Sporting Organisations (NSO’s) to develop, implement and coordinate coaching and officiating policy and coach and official development programs.
“Coaches are the shop front of sport so to speak.
“They play a key role in the club environment and provide participants with an enjoyable experience that keeps them returning to the sport every year,” he said.
Lawrie continues to be a mentor for many young people in the sports industry.
