The Confederation of Australian Sport (CAS) applauds the Federal Budget announcement of funding to support the hosting of the World Masters Games in Perth in 2029.
This vital Federal Government assistance now provides assurance for the WMG Perth 2029 bid team to move forward with negotiations to secure the event.
The World Masters Games is an international multi-sport event held every four years for amateur athletes over 35 years old. The event attracts 30,000 to 35,000 athletes from across the globe as well as approximately 5,000 coaches and officials, volunteers and accompanying persons. The 12-day competition program includes more than 40 sporting disciplines and utilises 50-60 venues across the host city.
The WMG is a unique event because it provides both the benefits of the scale of a Mass Participation Event and the Global reach to engage active participation from over 100 nations. The WMG is a high value event that will generate significant economic, health, social and reputational benefits for Western Australia and the nation.
CAS will provide further comment following negotiations with the International Masters Games Association.
