Over the past weekend, Australia played host to a momentous event in school athletics with the commencement of the All Schools Athletics Championships (All Schools) at the WA Athletics Stadium in Perth. Showcasing the talents of over 1,200 school-aged athletes, this three-day affair was a testament to the athletic prowess flourishing among Australia’s youth.

The 2023 All Schools Athletics Championships in Perth served as a platform for the nation’s emerging talents to display their skills across a diverse range of athletic disciplines. This highly anticipated event not only celebrated individual achievements but also culminated in determining the standout representatives from various States or Territories.

Highlighting the significance of such mass participation events, WA Tourism Minister Rita Saffioti emphasized their integral role in the State’s tourism strategy:

“Mass participation events like All Schools are an important part of the State’s tourism strategy, as they create a time-specific reason for athletes and their supporters to visit Western Australia for the event, and then extend their stay to explore the State.”, said WA Tourism Minister Rita Saffioti.

With a comprehensive lineup boasting over 200 categories tailored for athletes under 16, under 17, and under 18, the championships also included specialized competitions designed for para-athletes across different age groups. This emphasis on inclusivity and diversity contributed to the vibrancy of the championships.

Sports and Recreation Minister David Templeman expressed anticipation for the representation of Western Australian athletes and schools in the Championships, hoping to witness their success in the National Schools Challenge:

“I can’t wait to see the Western Australian athletes and schools represent our great State in these Championships and hopefully take out the National Schools Challenge.”, said Sports and Recreation Minister David Templeman.

The National Schools Challenge, involving over 30 schools vying for the prestigious title, stands as a testament to the immense talent flourishing within Australian schools.
