From London to Brisbane: The National Sports & Physical Activity Convention (NSC) 2023 has unveiled its highly anticipated NSC Oration event, featuring a keynote address by Tim Hollingsworth OBE, Chief Executive of Sport England. With a focus on the transformative experiences from the London Olympics in 2012 to the Commonwealth Games in 2022, the Oration aims to provide valuable insights and delve into the lessons learned by the United Kingdom over the past decade. The timing of this event aligns perfectly with the recent launch of the Brisbane 2032 consultation paper and the Queensland Government’s ‘Elevate 2042’ initiative, both of which emphasize the pursuit of a lasting legacy for Australians.

Drawing inspiration from the triumphs of the London 2012 Olympics, which were successfully carried forward to events such as the Women’s European Football Championships and the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, the Oration highlights the significance of these accomplishments and their impact on the future of sports.

Tim Hollingsworth will be joined by a distinguished panel of experts, each offering a unique perspective. The panel comprises individuals specializing in athlete well-being, integrity, the Commonwealth Games of 2026, and government affairs, including:

  • Hon Dr Andrew Leigh MP – Assistant Minister for Competition, Charities and Treasury
  • Jeroen Weimar – Chief Executive Officer, Commonwealth Games Organising Committee, Victoria 2026
  • Dr Hannah Macdougall, PLY – Dual Paralympian, World Record Holder
  • Patrick Johnson, OLY – Culture and Safety Advisor, Sport Integrity Australia, Brisbane 2032

Through their collective expertise, they will explore the UK’s experiences and insights, shedding light on what lies ahead for global events and their implications for local sports.

Martin Sheppard, the Founder of NSC, expressed his pride in hosting Tim Hollingsworth in Australia and his excitement about the opportunity to share his wealth of knowledge. The Discussion Panel promises to open up avenues for meaningful dialogue and inspire a comprehensive understanding of the possibilities that lie ahead for both global and grassroots sporting endeavours.

NSC Founder Martin Sheppard said “The NSC is proud to welcome Tim Hollingsworth to Australia to share his learnings and with our Discussion Panel we should really appreciate what our options can be looking forward for the global events but what it means to local sport.”

Mark your calendars for the NSC Oration, taking place on Thursday, 27th July, at the prestigious Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. This event is set to offer invaluable perspectives that will shape the future of the sports industry.
